Skin Cancer Treatment in Canterbury

If you are worried about a mole, mark or lesion, prompt assessment by a specialist is the right first step. Many skin changes turn out to be harmless, and when treatment is needed, skin cancer is often treated successfully with minor surgery.

At Kent Skin & Laser Clinic, our consultant dermatologist-led team assesses and treats suspected skin cancer, with histology included as standard. Based in Canterbury, we welcome patients from across Kent, including Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham, Ashford, Folkestone, Dover, Deal and the surrounding areas.

What is Skin Cancer Treatment?

Skin cancer treatment begins with an accurate assessment of the skin. Our consultant dermatologists examine the area of concern, using dermoscopy where helpful, and decide on the right next step for you. You may wish to be assessed if you have:

Please do not wait if you notice a change in your skin. If you have several moles, our mole mapping service can help you keep track of them over time, and our mole check is a simpler examination. Our team can also advise about related conditions, such as actinic keratosis.

Our Approach to Treatment

Treatment depends on what is found at your assessment, and our aim is always to explain each step clearly.

Assessment and Diagnosis

A close examination of the lesion, together with your medical history, guides the assessment. Some lesions can simply be monitored, while others may need a biopsy first to confirm the diagnosis before the most appropriate treatment is decided.

Minor Surgery

Where removal is advised, it is usually carried out under local anaesthetic, either during the same visit or at a prompt follow up appointment. Surgery takes place here in the clinic, and most patients return home the same day.

Histology and Follow Up

Removed tissue is sent for laboratory analysis as standard. We contact you with the results, explain clearly what they mean and discuss any further treatment or monitoring that is needed. Individual outcomes vary, depending on the type and stage of the lesion.

Histology results follow, and we will explain them to you in plain language. Where further surgery is needed, this is usually carried out here at the clinic, and only rarely is referral to a wider specialist team advised.
