At Kent Skin & Laser Clinic, our laser therapists deliver treatment using a Class 4 Alexandrite laser, under the oversight of our consultant dermatologist-led team. Based in Canterbury, we welcome patients from across Kent, including Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham, Ashford, Folkestone, Dover, Deal and the surrounding areas.
What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal works by directing laser light at the pigment in the hair, which passes to the follicle and reduces its ability to produce hair. Because hairs grow in cycles, a course of sessions is needed to treat them at the right stage.
It may suit you if you:
- Shave, pluck or wax unwanted hair on the face or body regularly
- Get ingrown hairs from repeated shaving or waxing
- Would like a longer-term reduction in hair growth
- Have had previous unsatisfactory hair removal treatments with IPL
Suitability depends on your skin type and hair colour, which is why a consultation and patch test always come first. If your hair is very light, we will explain whether electrolysis may be a better fit.

What Happens at the Appointment?
Your first appointment is a consultation. During the appointment, we will:
- Assess your skin and hair type
- Review your medical history
- Carry out a patch test
- Explain the treatment plan and number of sessions
Once suitability is confirmed, the laser is applied to the treatment area. Most patients describe a warm, snapping sensation, and a cool air device is used throughout to help with comfort. Sessions last 15 to 60 minutes depending on the size of the area, and there is minimal downtime afterwards.
We recommend a course of at least 8 treatments, although this depends on your hair type, and we will plan the intervals with you in advance.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many sessions will I need?
We recommend a course of at least 8 treatments, although this depends on your hair type and the area being treated. Hair reduction builds gradually over the course, and individual results vary. We will agree a plan with you after your patch test.
Is laser hair removal painful?
Most patients describe a warm, snapping sensation rather than significant pain. A cool air device is used throughout treatment to make it more comfortable, and you can tell your therapist at any point if you need a moment.
Why do I need a patch test first?
A patch test confirms that your skin responds well to the laser before a full treatment. It is an important safety step for all new patients.
How should I prepare for treatment?
Shave the area 24 to 36 hours beforehand and avoid waxing or plucking for at least 4 weeks before your appointment, since the laser targets the hair root.
Are package deals available?
Yes. Courses of 6 or 8 sessions are available at a 10 to 15 percent discount, covering body areas alone or combined with facial areas for women, and body for men. This works out more cost effective than booking single sessions.
Who delivers the treatment?
Laser hair removal is delivered by our experienced laser therapists. All laser treatment at the clinic operates under the oversight of our Consultant Dermatologist, Dr Mark Hudson-Peacock, who is the clinic’s Laser Protection Supervisor.

“Would highly recommend using Kent Skin and Laser Clinic. I’m on my 4th session for Laser with Amber and the results are incredible, I have no more stress over ingrown hairs and thick dark hairs as it grows so slowly and thin now. Everyone in the Clinic is lovely and it’s always a welcoming environment. Would 100% recommend to anyone thinking of starting laser treatments to come here. Amber has been brilliant she has eased any of my previous worries or questions by giving detailed explanations of the whole process and after care. As well as being an incredibly kind person.”

“I’ve been having laser hair removal here at Kent Skin and Laser clinic and couldn’t be happier with my experience! My results have been amazing. As someone who struggled extremely badly with ingrown hairs and inflammation of my hair follicles, my skin was never smooth and irritation free, even after shaving. Now my skin is always so soft and smooth, and almost completely hair free! Only a few tiny wispy hairs grow in between appointments which you can hardly see. The laser hair removal has been life changing for me. The lasers here are extremely effective. I highly recommend it to anyone considering it!”
