At Kent Skin & Laser Clinic, microdermabrasion is delivered by our experienced therapist team using the Oxyjet system, within a consultant dermatologist-led clinic. Based in Canterbury, we welcome patients from across Kent, including Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham, Ashford, Folkestone, Dover, Deal and the surrounding areas.
What Is Microdermabrasion?
The outer layer of the skin is made up of dead cells that build up over time. When they linger, skin can look dull and feel rough, and pores can appear more congested. Microdermabrasion works by gently removing this top layer, which helps the skin surface renew and allows skincare products to work more comfortably.
It is a superficial treatment and does not replace medical treatment of a skin condition. Our dermatology team is on hand in the same clinic if you need a medical opinion.
Microdermabrasion may suit you if you have:
- Dull, tired looking skin or an uneven texture
- Congested skin, blackheads or enlarged-looking pores
- Rough patches that make make-up sit unevenly
- Skin that you would like to prepare before or maintain after other treatments
How It Works
A gentle, controlled exfoliation
Our therapist moves a treatment handpiece across the skin, which exfoliates the surface while a gentle suction lifts away the loosened cells. The depth is adjusted to your skin type and sensitivity, so the treatment stays comfortable.
Alongside other treatments
Microdermabrasion is often suggested within a wider plan. It can be paired with medical skin peels, microneedling or Dermalux LED light therapy, and it is one of the in-clinic options we discuss for congested skin, large pores and acne. Individual results vary, and your therapist will recommend how often to return.
Why Choose Kent Skin & Laser Clinic?
Microdermabrasion is a simple treatment, but it works well when it is matched to your skin. Patients choose us because we offer:
- Experienced therapists who adjust the treatment to your skin
- A dermatology team on site if anything about your skin needs a medical opinion
- A clear price before you begin
- Online booking 24/7, with a skin consultation redeemable against treatment within 3 months
Based in Canterbury, we also welcome patients from Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham, Ashford, Folkestone, Dover and Deal.
What Happens at the Appointment?
You can book a skin consultation (30 minutes, £50) to discuss which treatment suits you, and the fee is redeemable against treatment booked within 3 months. At your appointment, we will:
- Look at your skin and ask about your routine and any products or medicines you use
- Check that microdermabrasion is suitable for your skin on the day
- Explain what to expect and agree the strength of treatment
The treatment itself takes around 45 minutes. Your skin is cleansed, the handpiece is passed over the treated areas, and the skin is then soothed and protected. Most people describe a mild scratchy or tingling sensation.
Your skin may look slightly pink and feel a little tight immediately afterwards, and most people return to normal activities straight away. We recommend sun protection and gentle skincare for a few days. Some people see a smoother surface after a single visit, while others choose a course of treatments, and we will advise you honestly on what is likely to suit you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does microdermabrasion hurt?
Most people find it comfortable, describing a mild scratching or tingling feeling. Your therapist adjusts the treatment to your skin and will check how you are feeling throughout.
Is there any downtime?
Downtime is minimal. Your skin may look slightly pink and feel a little tight for a short time, and most people carry on with their day as normal.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your skin and what you would like to achieve. Some people have a single treatment for a refresh, while others book a course alongside peels or other treatments. Individual results vary.
Can microdermabrasion help with acne or large pores?
It can be one of the in-clinic options we discuss for congested skin and large-looking pores, usually as part of a wider plan. Acne itself starts with a dermatology assessment, and our acne and large pores pages explain the options in more detail.
Who should not have microdermabrasion?
It may not be suitable if you have active infection, inflamed or broken skin, or certain skin conditions, or if your skin is very sensitive on the day. Your therapist will check before treating you and will tell you if it should wait.

Excellent experience in every way. So glad I found this place. The treatment by Charlotte was exceptional. Update. Second visit was just as good as the first.
