At Kent Skin & Laser Clinic, our consultant dermatologist-led team treats warts and verrucas with cryotherapy, in a CQC-registered clinic. Based in Canterbury, we welcome patients from across Kent, including Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham, Ashford, Folkestone, Dover, Deal and the surrounding areas.
What are Warts and Verrucas?
Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which infects the top layer of the skin. A verruca is a wart on the sole of the foot. Many clear without treatment over time, but some persist. You may wish to seek treatment if:
- A wart or verruca has not cleared with over the counter treatments
- A verruca is uncomfortable when walking or standing
- You have multiple warts
- A wart is in a visible or awkward location
Because other skin lesions can look like warts, an accurate diagnosis is important. If a growth is changing, bleeding or you are unsure what it is, please have it checked by a clinician. Our dermatology consultation is available if you would like a wider skin review, and our skin tag removal service treats a different kind of growth.
Our Approach to Wart Removal
We treat warts and verrucas with cryotherapy, planned as a course of treatment.
Cryotherapy
Liquid nitrogen is applied to freeze the wart or verruca, encouraging the affected tissue to clear. The treatment is quick and generally well tolerated without local anaesthetic. Most patients describe a brief stinging or cold sensation, which settles soon afterwards.
A Course of Treatment
Because warts and verrucas are caused by a virus, they typically need a course of three or more sessions, spaced a few weeks apart. Other skin lesions treated with cryotherapy often clear in one or two. We plan your follow up appointments with you, and individual results vary.
Suitability
We confirm the diagnosis and check the number and size of the lesions before treatment. If you are considering treatment for a child, please discuss this with our team when booking, as suitability depends on the age of the child and the location of the wart or verruca.
Why Choose Kent Skin & Laser Clinic?
Dermatology is the heart of our clinic, with expertise rooted in Canterbury since 2002. Patients choose us because we provide:
- A consultant dermatologist-led team
- Confirmation of the diagnosis before treatment begins
- A planned course of cryotherapy with follow up appointments
- A CQC-registered clinic that accepts all major private medical insurers
- A clear price, based on the number of lesions treated
We welcome patients from Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham, Ashford, Folkestone, Dover and Deal.
What Happens at the Appointment?
Your appointment begins with a brief assessment. During the consultation, we will:
- Confirm the diagnosis
- Check the number, size and location of the lesions
- Explain the treatment and what to expect
- Plan your follow up sessions
Each session takes around 30 minutes. Liquid nitrogen is applied to each lesion, and the treatment itself is over quickly. Most patients return to normal activities straight away, although a verruca on the sole of the foot may feel slightly tender for a day or two. Most warts and verrucas need three or more sessions at intervals, so we will book your follow up appointments as you go. Keeping to the planned intervals helps treatment work as intended, and our team is happy to answer any questions between sessions.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many sessions will I need?
Warts and verrucas typically need a course of three or more cryotherapy sessions, spaced a few weeks apart, whereas other skin lesions often need just one or two. We will plan the course with you.
Is cryotherapy painful?
Most patients describe a brief stinging or cold sensation during treatment, which settles quickly afterwards. It is generally well tolerated without local anaesthetic.
Will the wart clear after treatment?
Cryotherapy is a well-established treatment for warts and verrucas. Because they are caused by a virus, a course of treatment is usually needed rather than a single session, and results vary from person to person.
Can children have wart removal treatment?
Please discuss this with our team when booking, as suitability depends on the age of the child and the location of the wart or verruca.
Is there any downtime after treatment?
Most patients return to normal activities straight away, though a verruca on the sole of the foot may feel slightly tender for a day or two.
How much does wart removal cost?
Treatment is priced by the number of lesions: 1 to 5 lesions £300, 6 to 10 lesions £350 and 10 or more £400. Subsequent sessions are from £200.
